If you experience lag: ► Try fps_max 150 in autoexec.cfg
In order to do this:
1. Navigate to : C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2 Deathmatch\hl2mp\cfg (on windows)
2. Close hl2dm
3. Open the file autoexec.cfg, if you do not find one, create one with your favourite text editor.
4. in there add the line fps_max 150
If you want to experiment more:
I am changing my tune here. The reason you are doing this is because your PC is not able to keep up with all the frames and by reducing the amount it will make things quicker.
Going any lower than 150 would affect the gameplay negatively even with a 60hz screen.
So the higher fps your PC CAN get the better, because it means that when your monitor calls an image, it is the latest and more current one.
Anything over 300 is kind of overkill though (hence why the server limits it at 300) - also saves CPU power for when the server gets full.
So experiment with your monitor and see what gives you the less screen tear and better response time !

Re: LAG
actually for smooth and accurate gameplay need more FPS as possible, but more than server's FPS (300) is no sense. refresh rate is not meaning.[ZG] BubblesDevere wrote: if you have a monitor that is 60hz , fps_max 60 etc.
I accidentally discovered that if you restart the graphics engine of the game when an unstable or low FPS, then the FPS can stabilize in most cases.
it is necessary to study the cause in more detail to eliminate it.
I realize "graphics kick" by simple script. When press F6 It just enable vsync and disabled vsync and in result graphics part is reloaded
This is part of my autoexec with graphics settings. In game menu i set maximum quality @1080p except HDR (HDR is disbled)
In most scenes i have stable 120 FPS (Limited by fps_max) except some "beautiful" maps
My config is:
Intel Xeon x3470 @2.93 OC 3.2 Ghz. 16Gb DDR3 @1333Mhz OC 1666MHz in dual channel

ssd Transcend 240G SATA3
hdd Seagate 2TB SATA3
Philips 248C 24' IPS Display @60Hz with enforced freesync 56-76Hz range.
